Top 5 Vitamin C Face Serums. Another Subjective Ranking
Today I’d like to tell you a bit about vitamin C. I’ll try to enumerate its benefits for skin and give you my personal top products. If you want to explore this topic further, carry on reading.
Vitamin C: For clear skin
I don’t know if this is a widely-known fact but we, humans, need vitamin C not only in winter to boost our immune system. Vitamin C is proven to be essential for our skin too. When added to beauty products, this nutrient:
- erases skin discoloration
- promotes even skin tone
- leaves skin glowing
- has an antioxidant effect on skin
- makes skin smoother, more supple and younger-looking
- protects from UV rays
Vitamin C in skincare
Swallowing vitamin supplements isn’t enough, sadly. You won’t notice any improvement in your skin’s appearance if you just take pills. You need to use certain care products and apply vitamin C externally, directly to your skin. Only in this way will you enjoy flawless and clear complexion.
From the whole arsenal of vitamin C skincare products, I recommend a face serum. Why? Because this cosmetic is super-lightweight and delivers quick effects – skin has no problems with soaking it up, is non-greasy and starts improving your appearance from the first application. In short, face serum is efficacious. You just need to pick the right product.
Which vitamin C serum should you choose?
Formula is the most important thing that is worth paying attention to while choosing a vitamin C face serum. That’s why, next time you look for a good vitamin C serum, check if it:
- has a short formula
- contains stabilized vitamin C, e.g. 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid
- is enriched with some soothing plant extracts
Okay, but not all of us have the knowledge to recognize the good and bad ingredients on the INCI list. Most often than not, we simply don’t have the time to read all the labels before putting a serum into the basket. It gets even worse when you want to buy cosmetics online – sometimes you can’t find the list of ingredients there. I know what I’m talking about, and therefore I’ve prepared something special for you.
THE BEST VITAMIN C FACE SERUMS
Here is a short ranking of vitamin C face serums. Mine and totally subjective because I didn’t consult anyone to share the thoughts about the products that you’re going to read reviews about. I chose 5 vitamin C face serums that I had used and that worked for me – I ranked them as it’s normally done, starting from the best product.

1. Nanoil Vitamin C Face Serum
The best of the best, no lie. Nanoil Vitamin C Serum is my personal winner. A lightweight, water-based face serum formulated with ethylated ascorbic acid and Punarnava (Indian plant extract). This blend of ingredients has a soothing effect on my skin, which I could feel after first application. The more I used this serum, the better-looking and younger my skin was getting. Discoloration was erased, the skin became smooth and even-toned. I could even spot less wrinkles than before the treatment. Using the Nanoil vitamin C serum regularly is basically all you have to do to enjoy these benefits. I do it in the evening after removing makeup. Let me tell you again that Nanoil Vitamin C Face Serum is my favorite.
2. The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution
I couldn’t ignore this iconic The Ordinary vitamin C face serum. It can’t be denied, it’s size is smaller than Nanoil’s and the price is higher, but the effects it produces make it one of the best brightening serums available on the market. It’s formulated with 15% ethylated ascorbic acid, which – for those who don’t know – is stabilized vitamin C that doesn’t break down when exposed to oxygen. As promised, Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution leaves skin brighter and radiant. Additionally, it stimulates collagen synthesis for a supple and youthful-looking complexion. To me, however, the concentration of vitamin C appeared to be too high, and I had to use The Ordinary serum less often than I would have liked to. Piece of advice: Test it before buying a full-size product.
3. Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop Serum
Before finding out about Nanoil serum, I liked using vitamin serum by Klairs. It’s clearly more expensive, which made me hope for achieving something extraordinary. Well, it was good, but I’m not enthusiastic about this product. It’s another lightweight serum with L-ascorbic acid and naturally-derived extracts – anise, grapefruit, lotus flower, peony, tea, Baikal skullcap, pyrethrum and rhubarb. Quite a number, right? Therefore, to steer clear of irritation, I’d recommend those of you who have sensitive skin to buy a tester first. Klairs Freshly Juiced vitamin C serum worked very well for me, moisturizing, nourishing and brightening the skin.
4. La Roche-Posay Pure Vitamin C
While talking about costly products, I can recommend La Roche-Posay Pure Vitamin C. I don’t think there is somebody who doesn’t know this brand. However, not everyone has had the opportunity to use Pure Vitamin C, right? The lightweight formula and the color of juicy orange were two things that impressed me – in fact the serum resembles the juice you get after squeezing an orange. When it comes to the ingredients then – of course – you will find vitamin C teamed with salicylic acid (deals with blemishes) and peptides. When combined, these three substances have many benefits for skin. The bad news is that you need to wait at least a week or two to notice a difference in your appearance, which takes the form of radiance boost and younger-looking complexion. This serum doesn’t deliver quick effects.
5. Lumene Bright Now Vitamin C Hyaluronic Essence
I also had the pleasure of testing Lumene vitamin C serum. It was clearly a pleasure because I do like this product and its formula. Being an unpopular serum, you may find it difficult to order; but it’s easier to get it from an online drugstore. The advantage, however, is the brightening and rejuvenating vitamin C combined with deeply moisturizing hyaluronic acid. Owing to these two ingredients, Lumene Bright Now face serum leaves skin super smooth almost instantly. Arctic raspberry extract is in charge of replenishing nourishes to skin and slowly improving its appearance day by day. To me, Lumene Bright Now Vitamin C Hyaluronic Essence isn’t the most effective serum for redness and spots, but it works better as a day-to-day skincare.
